School History
Hayworth Christian School began under the leadership of Reverend Randy Haithcock, who was serving as Associate Pastor at Hayworth Wesleyan Church. Reverend Haithcock and a committee of educators from the church began by praying and seeking God’s will concerning this endeavor. After a feasibility study Reverend Haithcock and the committee sensed God’s leading Hayworth Wesleyan Church to begin a discipleship school. This meant that there would be a partnership between the parents, church and the school. This partnership would come together in order to live out the words found in Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” The motto of the school would be: “Building Knowledge upon Faith”, seeing that it best described the mission of the school. Each class would be taught from a Biblical Worldview, using the Holy Bible as a lens through which all learning would take place.
In August of 1996, Hayworth Christian School began its first year with Reverend Haithcock serving as the Administrator. There were three faculty members providing education for twenty-three students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. Plans were made to expand the school by adding a grade each year. By the beginning of the second year, with the addition of a seventh grade, the enrollment increased by double. In 1998, due to the desire of several church families wanting to place their ninth grade students at Hayworth Christian School, both eight and ninth grades were added.
Hayworth Christian School continued to grow. This growth was evidenced by breaking ground for additional classrooms, as well as other needed space in the spring of 2002. During that same time, Hayworth had the privilege of inducting its first group of students into the Beta Club National Honor Society. The 2001-2002 academic year brought jubilation as Hayworth Christian School saw its first graduating class of eleven students walk across the stage to receive their high school diploma. The fall of 2022 brought the addition of the preschool program. The preschool program began with only two students. However, before the academic year ended, the preschool enrollment doubled.
Since 2002, Hayworth Christian School has graduated over 150 students. More than sixty percent of those graduated were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements by having been inducted into the Beta Club National Honor Society. The students at Hayworth Christian School are not only excelling academically, but they are also learning Godly traits such as compassion and generosity. This was made evident in 2014 as Hayworth Christian School was recognized by the National Lymphoma and Blood Cancer Society for having been North Carolina’s largest school donor, per capita.
In 2015-2016, as plans were being made for the senior trip, the students decided they wanted to give back because they had been so richly blessed. That year a mission component was added to the senior class trip, and the senior class traveled to South Dakota where they worked with the Lakota Tribe. Every year since then, the senior class has served in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, provided assistance in building projects as well as other types of manual labor.
In 2015-2016, Hayworth Christian School celebrated twenty years with an enrollment of one hundred seventeen.
In 2020-2021, Hayworth Christian School celebrated twenty-five years of fulfilling Proverbs 22:6. As the school continues to grow, the mission statement of Hayworth Christian School remains the same. Hayworth Christian School is an extension of the Christian home and church. Our purpose is to train each student in the knowledge of God and the Scriptural way of life. Our goal is to provide the highest standards of excellence and spiritual development in order that each student may be fully equipped with the necessary tools to effectively pursue the vocation to which God will lead.
